Discussion Questions
1. In the "recipe" of the first paragraph,
how does the narrator manage simultaneously to intrigue, mislead, and inform
the reader about the events to follow?
2. How are the children, especially Tandy,
established as individuals? Are they believable?
3. How do the details about Tandy's behavior
connect with the SF elements of the story? Would any other character be
as appropriate a link with the "brownie"?
4. Much of the story could appear in a work
of realistic fiction. Does the introduction of the novum—the alien—change
the reader's perception of the realistic details?
5. The narrator describes the final fusion
of alien and child through the "analogy of the profit-sharing plan." Does
this symbiotic relationship suggest any other analogies? |
