John Crowley, born in 1942, has been a documentary screenwriter as well as fiction writer. Beginning with his first novel The Deep, he has often combined elements of science fiction and fantasy in his work. Engine Summer appeared in 1979 and the World Fantasy Award-winning Little, Big in 1981. The novella The Great Work of Time won the same award in 1990. His most recent novel is AEgypt (1987).
