Clifford D. Simak was born in rural Wisconsin in 1904. A journalist and fiction writer, he wrote twenty-eight novels and over a hundred short stories--Way Station (1963) and "The Big Front Yard" won Hugo Awards. He was given the International Fantasy Award for City (1952) and was a Grand Master of the Science Fiction Writers Association. His was a warm, well-loved voice in science fiction for over fifty years. He died in 1988.
