Carol Emshwiller, born in 1921, began publishing her innovative short stories in 1955· Recent publications include the novel Carmen Dog (1990), a novella, Venus Rising, and two collections of stories, Verging on the Pertinent (1989) and The Start of the End of the World (1990)· She lives in New York City.
